Our Mission: To provide scholarships to intelligent, highly motivated individuals who are unable to afford the steep costs of tuition, books, room and board during pursuit of higher education. Applicants must have specific goals, be determined to succeed and willing to work and study hard.
Forty thousand dollars in scholarships were given to 18 applicants for the 2008/2009 school year. Thirty thousand dollars in scholarships were given to 16 applicants for the 2009/2010 school year. Many worthy applicants did not receive scholarships due to insufficient Foundation funds. The following examples represent the successful scholarship applicants.
In the following scenarios, Applicants names have been changed. The stories are quite true:
Kimberly is living at home and attending a local Junior College. She works at least two jobs and sometimes 3 at a time. Kimberly is a Sophomore who hopes to attend Texas A & M her Junior and Senior years and continue in their Veterinarian program after graduation from college.
Marian is a single Mom who attends Sam Houston State University. She works a retail job full time and goes to school full time to pay for day care and to support herself and her child. She aspires to someday go to law school.
Tammy is married and has a 2 year old child. She attends cosmetology school while family members rotate taking care of her son while she attends classes. Tammy loves her chosen profession and some day hopes to have her own hair salon.
Jeremy is in his second year at a technical school out of state where he trains 8 hours a day to become an auto mechanic. The course costs are almost three times as high as regular state tuition. Because the curriculum does not allow Jeremy to work during the school year, he works summer jobs to earn spending money for school. Left over wages goes to pay his student loans.
As you can see, without the help of the Foundation, these scholarship recipients would find it difficult, if not impossible, to pursue their educations. Unfortunately, there are many more worthy applicants than there are funds available for scholarships. Your contribution to The Teresa Maness Education Foundation will be used in the year it is received to award scholarships. Upon your request, a scholarship in the sum of your contribution will be awarded in your name. In appreciation of your gift, your name will be published on the Foundation Website for one year following the contribution. You will also receive a thank you letter, certificate and recognition in our annual report. Donations are tax-deductible as provided by law.
